An Assessment of Phytoremediation Method for Dairy Effluent

Abstract :

The dairy industries are challenged with rising costs for wastewater treatment and disposal. Tighter environmental restrictions coupled with rising energy and process costs limit production and expansion in many facilities. Existing water treatment systems are often loaded beyond design flows, causing inefficient operation which leads to an excessive financial burden. In this regard study is to treat the waste water generated from the dairy industry by a new technique called Phytoremediation. Physico-chemical and organic parameters of water samples of the dairy were examined to determine the quality and extent of pollution. By which the pH value observe nearly neutral, COD reduces about 65-70%, DO increases above 4.5mg/l. the treated water is serve for floriculture in root zone method. The percolated water was examine and found out not harmful for ground water table. These methods provides cost effective solution
