Abstract :

The research entitled “Crop diversification in Nandura tahsil of Buldhana district- microlevel analysis” was carried with objectives Cropping pattern changes, Growth and instability, Crop diversification, Transitional probability matrix, Identification of advantageous crops, in Nandura tahsils of Buldhana district. The present study was based on secondary data collected from various government publications and pertains to a period of 13 years i.e. from 2003-04 to 2015-16. The present study has examined the growth rates of area of major crops, the trend in Cropping pattern changes, Growth and instability, Crop diversification, Transitional probability matrix, Identification of advantageous crops in Nandura tehsil of Buldhana district. Simple tabular analysis was used to examine the changes in cropping pattern in area of major crops. In order to work out Growth and instability, compound growth rates of area of major crops were estimated from 2003-04 to 2015-16. Coefficient of variation was used for analytical tools. In order to study the crop diversification Herfindahl index and Entropy index have been used. In order to work out the Transitional probability matrix in cropping pattern, Marko chain analysis of area of major crops were computed for 13 years i.e. from 2003-04 to 2015-16 In order to work out the advantageous crops, land concentration ratio was computed for last 13 years i.e. from 2003-04 to 2015-16.There was existence of temporal changes in cropping pattern. Over a period of study the proportion of area under Kharif Jowar, Maize, Green gram, and Black gram had reduced. The area of Cotton in Nandura, tahsil has increased. Soybean and Tur attained a prestigious position in the cropping pattern.The compound growth rates of area of major crops i.e Soybean were significantly positive. In case of Tur compound growth rates of area were significantly positive in Nandura, The area of Cotton in Nandura was significantly positive. Highest variability in area of Soybean was observed in Nandura, In Nandura tahsil, the most stable crop was Soybean followed by Cotton and Tur. The area of Cotton shows increasing trend of land concentration ratios from year 2003-04 to 2015-16, So concluded that Cotton is more advantageous crop in Nandura tahsil of Buldhana district
